Climate
Bulgaria is situated on the border between moderate continental and Mediterranean climatic zones. The Balkan Mountain is considered to be the watershed between them. In its northern part the climate is moderate continental, while to the south the Mediterranean influence defines the milder climate. Winter temperatures vary between 0° and 7°C below zero (the average temperature is 7 оС for the north part, about 0 оС for the south). Very rarely temperatures may drop below 20°C below zero. In summer average temperature are about 20-22 оС. In the mountains where the height is above 1 500 m the climate is characterized with low temperatures and much snow and is suitable for skiing. Summer is hot and sweltering in Northern Bulgaria, especially along the Danube River and along the Black Sea coast.
